RVN023 | Manipulation
Ever get the feeling you’re being manipulated?
Ever get the feeling you’re manipulating things?
Somewhere between these two questions exists this seismic slab of dark post-disco drama from Leipzig duo New Hook: ‘Manipulation’. A track to make you consider the extents of how much you manipulate your environment and how much it manipulates you; ‘Manipulation’ first came to life in 2018. The same year Riotvan introduced the duo to the world on their ‘Familiar Faces’ VA collection. Four years, and various releases on the likes of Ombra and Live At Robert Johnson, later and the original version of ‘Manipulation’ has recently been released on Underground Pacific album ‘The Only Good Wave Is A New One’. But there’s more to story… Now redeveloped and reworked, ‘Manipulation’ has been manipulated into this epic club missile on Riotvan. Electrified and strident in its swagger, this new version maintains the duo’s sultry, provocative vocal but carries much more dancefloor weight. Every bit as sharp and to the point as the name New Hook suggests, it’s also been blessed with an equally forthright twist from dark disco don Curses who brings a little added funk to the bassline, manipulating the already manipulated ‘Manipulation’ with his own unique flare. Now it’s time for your turn to manipulate it in the mix …

In pandemic times of telepresences and social distancing, Live At Robert Johnson and Riotvan team up for a magical musical mission. Encompassed by the graphic design of Michael Satter & Panthera Krause, each of the five tracks has been created by teams representing both label crews and their environs, rendering a truly synergetic effort.
THE LAMBS SUFFER – is New Hook and Perel teaming up for a Cosmic Disco tinged track, featuring unique spanish-english vocals.

„SEXERGY“ debut on Curses' Ombra International imprint matching beguiling vocals with seductive synth melodies and woozy guitars (Ransom Note)
The meaning of SEXERGY is super power. For us this means to have self-confidence but also to respect yourself with all your strenghts and weaknesses. This has a mojo and sets off a lot of energy. And latter we call SEXERGY.
RVN020 | Various Artists - »Familiar Faces Nº3«
„Speaking of Postpunk, closing things off are New Hook with their haunting and forceful O T - a cold sounding, yet fiercely intoned social criticism with unmistakable nods towards Malaria or Die Tödliche Doris, yet presented with an urgency that sets them apart from any formal retro-self-sufficiency.“ (Andreas Richter)

At this point it's about time for a premiere. Say hi to New Hook, an all-female power-force with their debut release. „FXART“ comes as a well-versed exercise in reviving frigid 80ies leanings with a contemporary urgency and attitude. And that's just a glimpse on what's to come from Linda, Ilka and Juliane.
